Ternyata dengan niat, semangat berbagi, buku yang didanai terbitnya oleh donatur dan para penulis yang tergabung di proyek ini bisa menghasilkan nominal lebih banyak untuk disumbangkan. Ya, 300 buku habis terjual dalam waktu sebulan sejak terbit, dan Alhamdulillah Januari 2011 itu Charity for Indonesia bisa menyalurkan bantuan sekitar 18 jutaan (kalau saya tidak salah ingat) dari hasil penjualan buku tersebut (mungkin sekitar 3 kali lipat dari modal awal)
Proses terbitnya juga cepat karena tim ini dikomandoi oleh kolaborasi penulis yang punya kemampuan mengedit, melayout, dan desain kover, bahkan buku ini tampil keren lengkap dengan ISBN, tak kalah dengan terbitan penerbit besar. Tidak hanya fisik tapi juga isinya sangat menginspirasi dengan banyak endorsement antara lain dari Taufik Ismail & Kang Abik di cover depan.
Pengalaman kedua, kebetulan awal tahun 2011 itu, saya mendapat hadiah menerbitkan buku dari Leutikaprio, lini baru self publishing yang juga lahir di bulan November 2010. Saya tinggal menyerahkan naskah, mengomentari konsep cover kemudian approve dan terbitlah buku cantik saya Mom Wow di awal bulan Maret 2011.
Berkaca dari dua pengalaman tersebut, saya jadi tahu bahwa menerbitkan buku itu tak harus antri, menunggu lama, dan bisa dikerjakan, diterbitkan sendiri secara self publishing. Sungguh saya beruntung, di awal menerbitkan karya, kebetulan saya dapat pengalaman mengesankan dengan self publishing 2 kali berturut-turut.
